Online Residency
Our online residency program fosters a collaborative and connected environment where international eco-artists can grow their practice in sustainability and expand their artistic horizons through feedback and mutual support. Open to artists of all nationalities and disciplines, this program brings artists together online to discuss, work, collaborate, and be inspired, regardless of their location.
The online residency provides a flexible framework that enables participants to maintain their current living and working environments while benefiting from international collaboration and support. The program features weekly group meetings, curatorial support, weekly lectures, and group meetings with guest curators and artists/sustainability experts.

Could IOAEA provide me with a grant or funding?
We are committed to making the program accessible to talented artists from diverse backgrounds. One fully funded scholarship is available each round for emerging artists who demonstrate exceptional artistic merit and financial need. Interested applicants should contact us directly to express their interest and inquire about the scholarship application process, as additional information and documentation will be required.
We can also provide a non-binding letter of invitation to support the artist's pursuit of financial assistance through grant applications in their own country. This letter would endorse the artist's participation in the program, potentially strengthening their case for funding.
What should I do if I am unable to attend a group meeting or lecture?
Participants are expected to commit to the program for the entire duration. Although we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, therefore if an artist is unable to attend some meetings we are flexible to find alternative arrangements or record sections..
What topics are covered in the weekly lectures?
The weekly lectures primarily focus on sustainability in art, case studies of successful eco-art projects, alternative exhibition models, and public art initiatives.
Is there a private view/opening?
At the conclusion of the residency, participants are anticipated to take part in a collective pop-up exhibition, which will commence with an opening event. Also, there will be a virtual exhibition, which will be open longer and will serve as another documentation aspect.
Does IOAEA cover shipping costs for artworks?
No, shipping costs are the responsibility of the artists. However, IOAEA will provide logistical support and help arrange all shipping details if you choose to send physical artworks.
What are my options for displaying work in the exhibition?
You have three options:
-
Ship physical artworks if needed - You cover shipping costs, we handle logistics.
-
Print locally - We can arrange printing to avoid shipping costs entirely.
-
Sound or audiovisual work.
Who is responsible for printing costs if I choose local printing?
Printing costs are the artist's responsibility, just like shipping costs. IOAEA only handles the logistical aspects - we coordinate with local printing services, help with technical specifications, and manage the scheduling, but all printing expenses are covered by the artist. This allows you to maintain control over print quality and budget while benefiting from our local printing partnerships and expertise.
How should I plan my artwork considering shipping limitations?
We strongly encourage artists to use the full 8-week residency period to coordinate closely with our curator and team when creating artwork, keeping shipping limitations in consideration. Artists can exhibit up to 2-3 works, so we recommend planning pieces that are either suitable for cost-effective shipping or can be effectively reproduced through our local printing services.
When should I finalize my exhibition pieces?
We strongly recommend using the full 8-week residency period to work closely with our curator and team to finalize all exhibition details. This ensures everything is perfectly prepared for the pop-up exhibition.
Who handles the exhibition setup and opening?
The IOAEA team manages all aspects of exhibition preparation, installation, and opening event. Artists are not required to be present for setup.
Are there additional fees for the exhibition?
No additional fees beyond the program fee. Artists only pay for shipping if they choose to send physical works or print their artwork.
